Glass Block Wall and Bar Sizes For Design and Installation Success

A customer asked, "Why is it so difficult to design and install a glass block wall/bar?" Despite being difficult, this unique glass wall product is becoming more popular in homes, businesses, and commercial buildings. These 5 steps will help you create a stylish and durable wall or bar.

Step 1. Where will you place your glass block wall/bar? What size wall do you want?

These glass walls are versatile and can be used inside or outside of a home or building. These glass walls are used most often to create partitions between rooms and shower walls. They also serve as bars for kitchens and recreation rooms. It is important to consider the dimensions and shapes of the wall when designing and determining the material needed Glass Partitions Manchester.

Sizes and shapes of glass block bars - Most bars are 40 inches high (five courses of eight inch blocks placed on top of one another). After the block work has been completed, the countertop is placed. You can make your bar more stable and stylish by choosing an "L-shaped", angled, or rounded design. For added support, the bars should be attached to one wall.

o Glass block wall shapes and sizes - Block walls are possible in almost any size. However, the maximum dimensions of each section or panel will depend on whether the wall is on the outside or inside of the building or home. Most walls are constructed using 3 7/8 inch thickness. Here's a quick guide to how large you can make your wall, without needing any type of support structure (either aluminum or engineered steel) between your glass panels.

1. Maximum dimensions of an inside wall panel (3 7/8 inch thick block)- Total wall area - 250 sq. feet.

- Maximum height - 20 feet

- Maximum width - 25 feet

2. Maximum dimensions for outside walls panel: 3 7/8 inch thick block

144 sq. feet.

- Maximum height - 20 feet

- Maximum width - 25 feet

Step 2: What type of floor, partial or base will the block-wall be placed on? What is the minimum width of the base to support the block wall?

Block walls and bars can be placed almost anywhere as long as the surface is stable and at least 3" to 4". Block walls average 12 pounds per square foot. Acrylic, fiberglass, and concrete shower pans work well. As long as the floor level is maintained, interior walls with wood joists work well. It is possible to place the block on knee walls, also known as half walls, with metal studs and drywall supports underneath.

Step 3: How do you put together your glass block walls or bars? Are panel sections possible to be made?

You can make it easier to install block walls by using spacers, installing systems, and purchasing pre-made blocks. Let's take a look at each approach.

o Glass Block Spacers: In the past, blocks were laid by skilled masons. These skilled craftsmen are often expensive and hard to find. All plastic spacers can be used to lay blocks uniformly. The spacers also help keep the bar or wall in place while you are building it. You can choose from either straight or curved walls by using spacers.

o Installation systems – The new vinyl stack system uses vinyl vertical and horizontal spacers between blocks to align them and keep them in place for assembly. Silicone is used for bonding the blocks to the vinyl spacers inside the block wall. This system is suitable for both interior and exterior use. To finish the joints, you can use silicone or special tile grout.

o Pre-fabricated or pre-made blocks sections - Block sections can be pre-assembled with the vinyl stack installation system and then installed on the ground. These sections can be made by glass block panel manufacturers, which often saves time and money. You should consider who will install the wall and where it will be located on the site.

Step 4: Choosing the right shapes, sizes, and colors for your glass block bars and walls.
